Things to do in and around Cambria during the

Cambria Scarecrow Festival

While the festival does not officially begin until October 1, most of the scarecrows are anxious to be in place in time for Sunset Magazine’s Savor the Central Coast Event in September 28 & 29.  Plus, this year there will be a few Adventure Tours in and around Cambria on September 26 & 27th.  There is something for everyone during Cambria’s most fun month:

Savor Adventure Tours 2013

Experience the Dream at Hearst Castle

September 26 & 27   11:00 – 3:00

Kick off the spectacular Sunset SAVOR the Central Coast weekend with an exclusive tour of what the legendary William Randolph Hearst called La Cuesta Encantada—the “enchanted hill” in Spanish. Experience the incredible opulence and history of Hearst’s remarkable estate on a special guided tour. Learn insider information about stars and celebrities who once used the castle’s gardens, pools, terraces, and guest homes as their private playground. Finish with an appropriately gourmet lunch on the mezzanine of Casa del Mar, the largest of the three guesthouses, with unrivaled views of the California coast.

Plant your own vine in Cambria

September 26  11:00 – 3:00

Take part in an intimate, hands-on experience at a coast-hugging vineyard. Stolo Family Winery & Vineyards, near the picturesque town of Cambria, is one of the region’s closest vineyards to the Pacific Ocean. Start the day on site with the Stolo winemaking team, then head out into the vineyard to plant and tag your own grape vine. (You’re welcome to come back in future years to see how it’s doing). Then join winemaker Nicole Pope as she explains daily winery tasks then pours tasting flights of the winery’s delicious, cool-climate Chardonnay and Pinot Noir wines. Finish with a delicious lunch, more wine tasting, and a game or two of bocce on the winery’s front lawn.

Out in the Field Where the Clydesdales Roam

September 27  10:00 – 2:00

Get a rare chance to see beautiful stands of native Monterey pines from a spectacular vantage point: a hay wagon pulled by elegant and enormous Clydesdale horses. Cambria’s historic, 1,500-acre Covell Ranch, now protected with a conservation easement from The Nature Conservancy, is home to expansive stands of these endangered pines. It’s also home to another rare site: over 100 noble Clydesdales that roam the ranch’s coastal hills. Tour the rolling hills in the company of the Clydesdales, then relax with a deluxe picnic lunch paired with Central Coast wines as you take in pristine views from ranch to ocean.
